Karambu Ringera
Dr Karambu Ringera is the founder of International Peace Initiatives, a U.S.-based peace-building organisation working with grassroots groups in Africa. IPI is helping AIDS orphans in Kenya continue their schooling and remain in their communities rather than being sent to orphanages. Ringera was one of the few women to run for parliament in the 2007 elections.

When I left Nairobi for Nakuru to visit people displaced by Kenya's post-election violence, I intended to stay just two days. I arrived there on January 23. That night all hell broke loose. It was sad, scary and out of this world. I hardly recognised my country anymore. The Nakuru violence was a spill-over from clashes in other towns across the Rift Valley. Many Kikuyus, among other ethnic groups, had been evicted from their homes and their property burnt. It was believed that Kalenjins were behind some of these evictions. ...
