How do Koreans think about the Myanmar situation? Interestingly, many bloggers strongly feel an attachment to this situation and link it to Korean history. The
Myanmar situation reminded some bloggers of their own experiences in the 1980s of Korea. ê³ ë"±íêµ ìì ê¹ì§ ì¤ê³§ 미ìë§ë¼ë" ê³³ì

Burma has become a special place since I called Myanmar as Burma in
high school. Looking at Burmese working in a strange place, Korea, and fighting for democratization, I felt that I am likely looking at Korean independent activists for the
nationâs independence in Japan, China, Manchuria, and America during the Japanese colonization periodâ¦. And today.
About 100,000 civilians and Buddhist monks in Burma gathered together for a peaceful demonstration against the military government and there are deaths and injuries due to violent suppression from the Burmese government. In a land which is not strange for them anymore, they must have complicated thoughts looking at their land, which they canât go to now. Today, observing the demonstrations, violent suppression, and massacre, I feel that I go back to Kwanju in May, 1980 and look back at violence and massacre.
Some of them actively appeal to other bloggers to join supports for Burmese demonstrators. People in Myanmmar have strikes in order to overthrow the military dictatorship. In order to repress these civilians, two military divisions are dispatched in Rangoon, the capital of Myanmmar. They are suppressing innocent civilians with guns and knives. International society should stop this drastic suppressionâ¦. I beg people who love peace to join this signature-seeking campaign.

Democratization is a funny time. We live in a dirty world where pig-like developers pursue their greed and destroy democratization. I still remember the nervousness of the
first day when I went for a demonstration. I canât forget the sky in 1991 where Jongro, Euljiro, and Kwanghwamun were full of demonstrators. Every 6 pm, all civilians
had to wait for the moment to bring down the national flag with dumb faces and even in the theater, all people had to stand up at the time of the national anthem. In order to have a demonstration, we
individually had to walk around Dongdaemun, Myeongdong, and Euljiro with disguise and one person started leading, others joined him (or her) to start the demonstration. Even though we had the freedom
of organizing meetings and associations, I extremely despise that time. Beyond Rangoon.
I remember the movement for democratization that caused thousands of deaths in Burma in 1988. My village had the same story eight years ago.

Even though the military will grab the authority again and mock todayâs struggle, history will judge them righteously in the futureâ¦
Not a few
bloggers criticize the ambigious attitude of the Korean government. I remember the movement for democratization that caused thousands of deaths in Burma in 1988. My village had the same story eight years ago.

â¦2. Rangoon, Myanmmar and Seoul, Republic of
Korea.
At present, Myanmar politically lost the normal function of the nation. Even though the nation exists, the military authority that took over the power since 1988 and destroyed the legislature, administration of justice, and administration.
Since that time, the desire for democracy has been started from civilians and the situation reminds us of the spring of Seoul in 1980 and the 4.19 revolution, the history of our pastâ¦.
It would be easy to assume that, like military governments do in order to keep their power, the Myanmmar government massacres human rights. Just as happened in Korea before, sacrificing our personal interest for the public good, the act against morality is replayed in another place in Asia.
4. What does the globalized Korean government do?
Now I face a question. Why does Korea act like a mute?
In order to contribute to world peace, we have sent troops to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Vietnam, and will send more to Lebannon. If we really are concerned about world peace so much, why are we silent about this savagery?
Like I said, a series of events that happened in Myanmar are similar with the past of our country. Politicians know about this. Do they have so many things to think about and is it why they are so quiet?…
