AIDS in Americas

Last reviewed: 14-12-2008
For the latest facts and figures and an overview of the two regions, check out the 2008 Joint U.N. Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) report.

The World Bank's regional AIDS pages have other useful reports as well as an overview of the pandemic.

The University of California San Francisco School of Medicine's regional page on AIDS is an excellent source for regional reports (many in Spanish). It also has lots of links to regional AIDS pages in Spanish, information about regional conferences and workshops and links to regional news reports on AIDS.

The World Health Organisation's regional office - the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) - website on AIDS has lots of information about its work, as well as links to more technical documents about prevention.

PAHO also has a section devoted to treatment - both costs and access.

The International Planned Parenthood Federation's regional pages have some useful information.

The Pan-Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP) was established by Caribbean heads of state to help scale up the region's response to AIDS. To find out more about its work click here.

If you want to find out more about Cuba's response to the epidemic, the WHO produced a detailed paper in 2004 which gives the history of the pandemic and the government response.
