Conflict fuelled by diamonds and timber

We've got a list of aid agencies working in Liberia, with contact numbers for journalists. The link takes a little while to open, so don't give up.

A good place to start finding out about goings-on in Liberia is All Africa's section on the country. All Africa carries general news and features about the entire continent from over 125 African news organisations, plus more than 200 other sources. For a very local perspective, try the Daily Observer or the Liberian Times.

There's also Star Radio which carries political news and local stories.

The BBC has a good overview of Liberia's history along with news and features.

Belgian-based think tank International Crisis Group follows developments in Liberia.

British-based advocacy organisation Global Witness produces well-researched reports on the diamond and timber trades.

Save the Children has in-depth analyses of the humanitarian issues facing the country, and has done research into sexual exploitation of child refugees.

The U.N. World Health Organisation has compiled reports on gender-based violence, including rape statistics.

The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has issued a report detailing the humanitarian gaps in 2008 while donors shift from emergency to development funding.

HIV/AIDS PlusNews - part of U.N. news service IRIN - keeps on top of AIDS-related news for the country.

The U.N. Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) also has a website.
