Assisting Displaced Families in Iraq
Shelter and clean water are among the most critical needs of the millions of displaced Iraqi families who have been forced to flee their homes as a result of the ongoing violence. Relief International is working to meet these needs by installing water treatment facilities and rehabilitating buildings to make them habitable.
RI's Zam Zam Clinic in North Darfur, Sudan serves 400 women each month with lifesaving motherhood services and cares for more than 4,000 children every month, providing protective vaccines, nourishment, and check-ups. The clinic has also provided more than 25 local health professionals with training to advance their medical skills.
RI has been working with local communities in Afghanistan and Pakistan to support education and will now work to strengthen literacy through the creation of community-based libraries. The goal of the project is to create libraries that children can access easily and safely, allowing them to learn important life skills in order to build a better tomorrow.
More than 250,000 people have been displaced following conflict in Pakistan's tribal belt. RI is one of the first agencies responding to this current crisis by providing women and children in need with shelter and medical care and distributing food, blankets and other urgently needed supplies. The influx of displaced families continues and more help is needed.
