Fighting in North Kivu since late August has driven a quarter of a million people from their homes, creating a humanitarian catastrophe. Dorcas, together with Dutch Christian NGOs Red een Kind, Tear, Woord en Daad and ZOA, responds to the crisis by assisting some 15,000 IDPs (internally displaced persons) from November 2008 to January, 2009.

An estimated 1 million people have been displaced by the militia-driven conflict in the DR Congo. Dorcas and four other Christian NGOs in the Netherlands: Red een Kind, Tear, Woord en Daad and ZOA - have started a campaign in the Netherlands to assist the affected and suffering people in eastern Congo. Immediate relief aid will be rendered (tents and food) as well as long-term assistance (seeds, water and sanitation, peace building e g).

Gypsy children in the village of Mera, Romania receive support from Dorcas in a new project, launched to fight the poor living-conditions and discrimination in which a large part of the minority in the country live.
