Two severe earthquakes struck the market town of Nahrin in northern Afghanistan on Tuesday and Wednesday, causing large-scale damage and extensive loss of life. As a massive relief operation got under way, rescuers and aid workers were hampered by aftershocks and roads blocked by debris and landslides.
