Posters give health tips in refugee camps
28 Apr 2005
Source: AlertNet

LONDON (AlertNet) - If a picture is worth a thousand words, new posters illustrating healthcare tips for use in refugee camps could save thousands of lives.

The posters, designed jointly by British charity Save the Children and disinfectant manufacturer Dettol, are aimed at informing women and children about the dangers of living in temporary camps, where poor sanitation and overcrowding often lead to the spread of disease.

Using basic flow-chart models, the posters show how to avoid contracting communicable diseases such as measles and diarrhoea, how to control malaria and how to manage fevers. Others focus on antenatal care, breastfeeding and immunizations.

The poster series will be distributed to health practitioners working in temporary camps around the world and will be available from September on the Save the Children website.
