LONDON (AlertNet) - Aid agencies in the AlertNet network as well as U.N. agencies and other relief organisations are on the scene in the Indian subcontinent, where a 7.6-magnitude earthquake rocked cities and villages in Pakistan, India and Afghanistan on October 8.
Action Against Hunger's initial response focuses on the provision of food aid, potable water. The organisation will be flying in additional food and non-food items and water provision supplies.

Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society (SEEDS) - India has distributed family packs with woollen clothes, utensil kits, socks and shoes in Poonch district. Tearfund's partners are conducting assessments in the affected areas. Terre des hommes has sent two assessment teams to Kashmir to look at the psychological needs of children. The U.N. Children's Fund, UNICEF began moving supplies that include blankets, clothing, tents, emergency medical supplies, food for infants, and water purification tablets to the affected area.
World Emergency Relief UK is sending essential medical supplies, including oral rehydration salts, antiseptics and antibiotics to remote communities around Muzaffarabad and Peshawar. WER has already prepared more than 15 tonnes of tents, warm clothing, food, cooking utensils and tools for shipment to Pakistan. The U.S.-based United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is supporting the work of International Blue Crescent (IBC) and Church World Service in the affected regions. World Concern is providing its partners Mercy Corps and World Vision with emergency supplies and funds for food, blankets, water, tents, and airlifts to deliver aid. The U.N. World Food Programme (WFP) has distributed two-day rations of high-energy biscuits to 12,000 people in Muzaffarabad, and is bringing a further 33 metric tonnes of high-energy biscuits will be sent to Pakistan.
World Relief will be supporting its local partners with funding and personnel. World Vision's child-friendly spaces will include education and hygiene as part of their daily routine. The organisation has so far set up three spaces and is planning another 14. It is also providing tents, blankets, cooking sets and working on shelter solutions.
