I'm getting blank emails, what should I do?
I'm getting no emails, what should I do? We are aware that the email alerting service has not been working very well. We've conducted a substantial overhaul of the emailing alert service to make the system work better for you. The main changes are as follows: - You will only be sent alerts for countries or topics you have actively selected. Previously, if you didn't select any countries or topics then the system would assume that you wanted all countries and topics. This meant you would receive around 150 emails each day! Now you must select at least one country or topic before subscribing (although you can still ask for everything if you really want to!). - You have to confirm that you are the owner of an email address before we start to send alerts to you. This is designed to prevent well meaning colleagues from subscribing someone else to receive alerts that they did not want. - Unsubscribing and amending your subscription has been fixed and is more secure. A number of users have been receiving blank emails from us. There are two possible causes for this: 1. You were previously subscribed to receive news or jobs from all countries and topics on a daily basis (rather than as the story breaks). To prevent subscribers accidentally signing up to receive a large volume of emails we have changed the system to require that you actively request to receive mails for a country or topic, rather than assuming that not selecting anything means you want all possible alerts. In order to fix this problem simply go to the amend subscription page, fill in your email address and click on the appropriate link in the email that will be sent to you. This will allow you to select the countries or topics that you wish to receive news or jobs from. 2. You were previously subscribed to receive news or jobs from a small number of countries and topics on a daily basis (rather than as the story breaks). This is a known bug in the system that means an email will be sent regardless whether there is any content to deliver. We are working to resolve this issue and apologise for any inconvenience caused. Some users that were previously receiving emails from us are no longer getting them. This is likely to be caused by the change we made to prevent subscribers accidentally signing up to receive a large volume of emails. In order to fix this problem simply go to the amend subscription page, fill in your email address and click on the appropriate link in the email that will be sent to you. Check that you are subscribed to the appropriate countries or topics and haven't used any keywords that would rarely appear in a news story.
