Canadian branches of RedR and CARE join AlertNet
23 Jun 2003

The Canadian branches of RedR and CARE are the latest two organisations to become AlertNet members.

RedR Canada is a member of RedR International, which focuses on emergency relief, assistance and the training of specialised personnel to respond to natural and manmade disasters with their engineering expertise.

CARE Canada is the Ottawa-based branch of the worldwide CARE network, which works with local communities to provide emergency and humanitarian assistance to improve living conditions.

CARE's Canadian branch was opened in 1946 and it focuses on water and community health, agroforestry and income generation. It is currently running programmes in 28 countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Honduras Indonesia and Zambia.

AlertNet now has 208 members spanning 41 countries.

AlertNet is an online news and information service for the general public and the NGO community.

AlertNet provides global news and communications to the international humanitarian relief community and the public. Reuters' 150 years of experience in reporting from disaster zones around the world allows AlertNet to provide reliable information, fast.

AlertNet is funded and run by Reuters Foundation -- an educational and humanitarian trust created by Reuters, the global news and information group.
