A major earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale struck Wenchuan County, Aba Prefecture in Sichuan Province at 14:28 Beijing time (06:28
GMT) on Monday, 12 May.
Neighboring cities of Jiangyou,Tianpeng,Guangyuan,
Mianyang and Chengdu received extensive damage and continuous aftershocks
Communications with the earthquake-affected area have been cut off
