Food Security Summary:
- Much of the country remains generally food secure, but moderate insecurity is localized in certain areas of conflict, among flood victims, and in areas suffering from structural food deficits.
- In addition to the 63,000 flood victims in the southern part of the country, including 30,000 people in Sarh, 25,000 in Koumi, and 8,000 in Doba, nearly 8,000 new victims have been recorded in eastern Chad. Difficult road conditions are preventing access to and limiting assistance in affected areas.
- Continued insecurity in northern Central African Republic (CAR) as well as banditry in eastern Chad has led to an influx of refugees in the south and a reduction in humanitarian activity in the east following the temporary withdrawal of certain IDP sites, including Dogdoré and Ade.
- Despite the new supply to markets from new harvests, cereal prices continue to rise in most major grain markets tracked by FEWS NET, often exceeding prices from 2004/2005, the agricultural season of reference known for high cereals prices in Sahelian countries.
