ActionAid has welcomed the appointment of Shriti Vadera as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for International Development. The charity acknowledged her long and active involvement in efforts to reduce world poverty.

As a Treasury adviser, Shriti Vadera worked on financial initiatives including debt cancellation for poor countries and the International Finance Facility, a mechanism for extending aid budgets with private sector finance.

Patrick Watt, policy coordinator at ActionAid, said: "Shriti Vadera has many years of experience working on international development issues including debt relief and novel financing mechanisms. With her development knowledge and passionate commitment on the issues she will add another dimension to the ministerial team."
