Charity Internet Service Provider (ISP) Surefish has launched a new range of broadband Internet services to raise money for Christian Aid's work in developing countries and to help it continue the fight against global poverty.

Surefish has raised more than £500,000 for Christian Aid in the past six years. Now it wants to raise this amount every year. With around 12 million people using broadband in the UK, the ISP hopes to achieve this by encouraging thousands of broadband users to switch to Surefish.

Switching is free if you already use broadband and, unlike most other providers, Surefish users don't have to commit to a twelve-month contract. The new services include fast Internet access via broadband from £22.50 a month - around 25% of which goes to Christian Aid - a free email address and web-space to publish personal websites.

Andy Jackson, the editor of Surefish, said: 'The beauty of broadband compared to dial up internet access is that Christian Aid can generate money for its work in pounds rather than pence. Every person who switches or signs up to one of our broadband packages can give up to £8 per month to Christian Aid, which is included in the monthly broadband charges. You can surf the Internet and help poor communities at the same time.' Full details can be found at www.surerfish.co.uk/broadband

Surefish also has an ethical living section offering advice and information on ethical shopping, banking, health and beauty, travel, utilities, home and garden.

Visitors to the site can make surefish.co.uk their homepage so that every time they access the internet they will get ethical advice, faith features, take part in discussions, read film reviews and find out which cinemas are showing them, get involved in campaigning action, and raise money for Christian Aid every time they use the Surefish search engine, at www.surefish.co.uk/search

Notes to editors: 1. Surefish is run by Christian Aid Trading Ltd, the trading arm of charity Christian Aid. All profits after costs go to the international development charity Christian Aid. In 2005/2006, Christian Aid Trading Ltd gave more than £500,000 to Christian Aid.

This NASA satellite image, taken April 30, 2005, shows a plume of dust flowing from China to the north of the Korean Peninsula (C) and over the East Sea. The dust almost completely obscures the island of Honshu, Japan (R) from satellite view. Asian desert dust and city pollution is swirling in vast plumes across the Pacific to North America, interacting with storms and possibly spurring climate change, an airborne scientist said on May 15, 2007.
