GUATEMALA: BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
UMCOR continues to help people in Central America recover what they lost in 2005 from Hurricane Stan and subsequent storms. One of UMCOR's partners in the region, Rights Action, is providing for immediate needs for families left homeless and jobless from the storm-triggered mudslides in the region. The organization is also helping them move towards a better, more stable future. Rights Action is working to rebuild, and in some cases relocate families, to foster healthy and safe living communities in the Guatemalan highlands.

SIERRA LEONE: LIFE SAVING MEDICINE BOXES
UMCOR just sent 20 boxes to help six health institutions and three school clinics in Sierra Leone. These health facilities struggle to provide basic medicines to the people they serve. This shipment of Medicine Boxes will provide all nine clinics and health institutions enough supplies and medications to last an entire year.
Each Medicine Box contains 18 essential drugs and medical supplies. The box contents are sufficient to provide a community of about 1,000 people with basic medicines and supplies for three months. It provides necessary items for day-to-day treatment of common ailments that plague people of all ages, from infants to adults. INDONESIA: NORTH SUMATRA EARTHQUAKE RESPONSE
It was a difficult New Year and holiday season for many families in Mandailing Natal District, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. An earthquake on December 18, 2006 was followed by torrential rain and deadly landslides. Hundreds of homes were destroyed and about 6,000 people have been displaced, with families now crowded into temporary housing such as tents and public buildings. UMCOR's Indonesia office, in close partnership with the Methodist Church of Indonesia, responded by trucking in 15 tons of rice, the most important daily food for Indonesians. UMCOR's rice will be available to vulnerable families through 26 distribution posts and will feed about 2,500 people for 15 days.
