MEXICO: HURRICANE NOEL FLOOD RECOVERY

UMCOR remains in contact with partners in the Dominican Republic and Mexico to assist them in the initial phase of recovery from damage caused by Hurricane Noel. UMCOR has issued emergency grants and long-term recovery plans are underway with Action by Churches Together partners—as they further assess the situation.

In the Dominican Republic, UMCOR is working with the Evangelical Dominican Church to provide the people with food, medication and other needed items. UMCOR is also supporting the Methodist Church in Mexico with a similar emergency response.

Hurricane Noel has caused severe flooding across the Caribbean and Mexico and have left many people in distress. You can help by giving to Hurricanes 2007, UMCOR Advance # 982511. Online Giving

ZIMBABWE: UMCOR HELPS FOOD CRISIS IN ZIMBABWE

UMCOR is working with Action by Churches Together partners to address Zimbabwe's critical food shortage. For the next five months, this program will assist the people with food and agricultural production support.

Several vulnerable households that include children, pregnant mothers and people living with HIV/AIDS will benefit from this effort. The introduction of new farming methods will aid current farming activities to revive crops in a sustainable manner and help the people become more self-sufficient.

Training on garden management, establishing nutritious gardens as well as the distribution of small livestock for income generation is another way UMCOR is helping. Help alleviate the burden of those affected by giving to All Africa Drought/Famine, UMCOR Advance # 101250. Online Giving

NICARAGUA: HURRICANE FELIX RECOVERY

UMCOR is helping Action by Churches Together partners bring relief and rehabilitation support to thousands of people affected by Hurricane Felix, which struck Nicaragua on Sept. 4.

About 2,150 families are receiving food, hygiene kits, domestic utensils and communal kits for debris removal through this effort. Approximately 320 families are receiving shelter materials and psycho-social assistance will be available for 17 communities. This program will include prevention and preparation for future disasters.

Hurricane Felix affected over 162,000 people. In many communities, water wells are contaminated, health centers and community houses have been destroyed or damaged, and much of the agricultural land is still flooded.

Please help the people in Nicaragua in the restoration process by giving to Hurricanes 2007, Advance #982511. Online Giving
