Silver Spring, Maryland—The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) announces the appointment of its new vice president for finance, Gideon M. Mutero. Mutero has accepted the invitation of the Board of Trustees to serve as ADRA's vice president for finance at ADRA International based in Silver Spring, Maryland. This appointment is effective January 2007.
Mutero most recently held posts as chair of the board for the ADRA Burundi office, as well as associate treasurer for the East-Central Africa divisional office for the Seventh-day Adventist church based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Prior to his position as associate treasurer in Kenya, Mutero worked as treasurer for the East African Union regional office covering both Kenya and Somalia, and as senior accountant for the Central Kenya Conference for the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
"I am looking forward to becoming a part of the ADRA International team," said Mutero. "I am thrilled to be part of an organization that focuses on giving hope and transforming lives. Having had an opportunity to visit and see some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people in the world, I see my role as vice president for finance as playing a part in harnessing the strength and potential of the resources available within ADRA to help achieve those objectives."
Mutero is currently working towards a doctorate in business, and holds an MBA in finance (2000) from the United States International University in Kenya. He also holds a BBA in accounting and management (1993) from Daystar University in Kenya, and is a certified public accountant.
"We are very pleased to have Mutero join our staff here at ADRA International," enthused Charles Sandefur, president of ADRA International. "I am quite confident that he will bring additional strength and character to our organization."
Mutero will be joined in Maryland by his wife, Sophia, and their two children, Rachel, and Peris.
ADRA is present in 125 countries, providing community development and emergency management without regard to political or religious association, age, gender, or ethnicity.
