Silver Spring, Maryland—The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has been listed in "The Razoo 100: The Definitive Guide to Charitable Giving", an overview of 100 world-class charitable organizations that are making a real impact in the world, according to Razoo, a Washington D.C. -based independent charity evaluator.

"We believe these 100 non-profits provide some of the greatest opportunities to contribute towards social good in a wide variety of focus areas," said Razoo in its official Web site.

The Razoo 100 honorees, picked from a field of 1.6 million non-profit organizations, were selected by philanthropic community leaders and Razoo researchers in order to help donors make wise and informed charitable giving decisions. Organizations listed in the Razoo 100 appear in one of 20 categories, including Advocacy, Basic Education and Literacy, Economic Development, Environment, HIV and AIDS, Homelessness, International Healthcare, Malaria, Microfinance, and Water and Sanitation. ADRA was noted for its leading role in the area of Malnutrition and Hunger.

"In the midst of such turbulent times, the work that we do is even more important," said Gideon Mutero, vice president for finance at ADRA International. "We work hard to ensure that the trust our donors have in us is deserved, and are proud to see that those efforts have been recognized. We will continue to work to earn that trust, both now and in future years."

Other organizations listed in the Razoo 100 include the American Red Cross, Amnesty International, Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation, Elton John AIDS Foundation, Grameen Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Inc., Nature Conservancy, One Campaign/DATA Foundation, Public Broadcasting Service, Sierra Club, and World Wildlife Fund.

The comprehensive Razoo 100 list can be found online at http://100.razoo.com.

For a fourth consecutive year, ADRA was recently awarded a top four-star rating by Charity Navigator, America's leading charity evaluator, for displaying sound financial practices and a high level of financial accountability and transparency. This respected rating is granted to less than six percent of U.S. charities. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) also recognized ADRA for a fifth straight year for displaying high charitable accountability standards. The Chronicle of Philanthropy, the leading news source for charities, placed ADRA in the top 400 U.S. charities again in 2008, something it has done every year since 2004.

ADRA is a non-governmental organization present in 125 countries providing sustainable community development and disaster relief without regard to political or religious association, age, gender, race, or ethnicity.
