Bogotá
(ICRC) – On the morning of 3 February, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) freed Alan Jara, the former governor of Meta, and handed him over to Colombian senator Piedad
Córdoba and delegates of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in a rural area of Guaviare.
A helicopter bearing the ICRC logo then took Mr Jara to Villavicencio, where he was met by the authorities and members of his family.
The ICRC is grateful to the government of Brazil, the government of Colombia and the country's police and armed forces, Colombians for Peace and the FARC for their cooperation in carrying out this humanitarian operation.
The ICRC remains concerned about the situation of hostages still being held by armed groups and the anguish of their families.
In its capacity as a neutral, impartial and independent humanitarian organization, the ICRC will continue to seek every possible means of securing the rapid release of all hostages.
