Geneva (ICRC) – Jakob Kellenberger, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has arrived in Stockholm for a two-day visit

Geneva (ICRC) – Jakob Kellenberger, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has arrived in Stockholm for a two-day visit during which he will hold talks with the Swedish prime minister, Mr Fredrik Reinfeldt, the minister for foreign affairs, Mr Carl Bildt, the minister for international development cooperation, Ms Gunilla Carlsson, as well as the acting director-general and senior staff of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

The talks are expected to focus on humanitarian issues affecting some of the main geographical areas in which the ICRC works, notably Sudan's Darfur region, Afghanistan and the Middle East, and on the relevance of international humanitarian law in today's armed conflicts.

Mr Kellenberger is also to meet with senior officials of the Swedish Red Cross.

The Swedish government and the Swedish Red Cross have traditionally given the ICRC strong support for its humanitarian activities worldwide.
