Geneva: ICRC chairs meeting on persons missing since 1990-1991 Gulf War

Geneva (ICRC) - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) today
chaired the 29th meeting of the Tripartite Commission to ascertain the fate of persons missing in connection with the 1990-1991 Gulf War.
The ICRC has chaired both the Tripartite Commission and its Technical Sub-Committee since they were set up in 1991 and 1994 respectively.
Today's meeting in Geneva followed the 52nd meeting of the Technical Sub-Committee and was attended by the Commission's members: Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, France, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Talks were held in a positive and constructive spirit.
Since 2003, this system has helped elucidate the fate of 281 people.
Working under the mandate conferred on it by international humanitarian law, the ICRC will continue to facilitate this process aimed at ending a long period of painful uncertainty for more than a thousand families.
