SUMMARY OF MAY'S ACTIVITIES AND OUTPUTS

The programme continued to reduce the threat of Remnants of Conflict to vulnerable communities in Cambodia by implementing Humanitarian Mine Action in Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Pailin, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom and Preah Vihear provinces.

21 Mine Action Teams (MATs) cleared 287,327 square metres of land and found and destroyed 346 anti personnel mines (APM) and 102 items of UXO.

5 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Teams removed and destroyed 144 APM, 4 anti tank mines (ATM), and 1,916 items of UXO. The teams also conducted Mine Risk Education (MRE) where appropriate to 1,974 people.

3 Mine Detection Dog (MDD) Teams (sub-contracted from CMAC) cleared 109,040 sq/m of suspect land, removing and destroying 10 APM and 19 items of UXO 1 Technical Survey Team (TST) cleared 11,433 sq/m of suspect land, finding and destroying 1 APM and 1 item of UXO.

In support of manual clearance and MDD teams, Tempest scrub cutting machines and manually operated strimmers cleared vegetation and prepared 182,228 sq/m of land.

8 Community Liaison (CL) Teams conducted 95 tasks of village assessments and meetings. The teams also reported 93 items of UXO found to EOD Teams for demolition.

4 Research and Development Teams continued the evaluation and trialing of innovative mine action methodologies and technologies. An Operational Field Evaluation of innovative dual sensor technology cleared 6,545 sq/m of suspect land, finding and destroying 58 APM.

MAG also continued the deployment of 6 Mapping Teams to survey suspect land now under cultivation to contribute toward updating the national atlas of contamination. During April, 29,116,997 sq/m of formerly suspect land was surveyed and reclassified as reclaimed land.
