SUMMARY OF JULY'S ACTIVITIES AND OUTPUTS

MAG Vietnam's programme continued to reduce the threat of unexploded ordnance (UXO) to vulnerable communities in Vietnam by implementing humanitarian mine action in Quang Binh and Quang Tri Provinces.

- 9 Mine Action Teams (MATs), supported by 2 Community Liaison (CL) Teams.

- Teams visited 1,932 houses and 36 scrapyards, searching 2,328 square metres, performing 267 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) tasks, and removing 1,212 items of UXO, including 584 items removed from scrap yards.

- During July the teams also cleared 35,455 sq/m of land, removing and destroying 55 items of UXO, and searching 8,718 sq/m and destroying 9 items of UXO during technical surveys.

- Community Liaison teams conducted 60 community/partner meetings; visiting 62 villages, conducting 857 house to house surveys; documenting 238 mine/UXO reports; generating 6 post clearance impact reports.

- A focus on on national capacity building included the following training:

Training for 2 new permanent Quang Binh CLAs Microsoft Access training by an instructor from Hue Tech University;

English language training;

Level 2 EOD Technician training course was completed in Quang Binh. 10 of the 12 students who passed were already employed by MAG and are now multi-skilled Driver Technicians, however, 1 additional student was a a mine accident survivor, who achieved greater than the necessary 60 percent pass rate.
