15 Nov 2006 14:47:00 GMT
Amy Whiddett

WER is preparing a second shipment of humanitarian relief supplies for immediate distribution to Lebanese and Iraqi communities affected by conflict in the Middle East region.

This latest WER support to the Middle East region, sent by WER UK in partnership with Scottish charity Glasggow the Caring City, includes pharmaceutical supplies, medical equipment and clothing, and is being shipped to WER's partner organisation Heart of Mercy based in Amman, Jordan.

The supplies will be distributed through Heart of Mercy to local organisations working with all sectors of communities in Beirut and neighbouring towns in southern Lebanon, as well as among Iraqi refugee communities within Jordan.

Heart of Mercy is a relief and development agency with susbtantial experience of working in Middle East crisis areas. Since 2003, Heart of Mercy and their associates, Manara, have been providing relief supplies and support into Iraq, working in Baghdad, Musol, Kirkuk and Basra areas.

This shipment is in addition to pharmaceutical and medical supplies which were delivered to Lebanon by WER UK, in conjunction with WER global offices, in August 2006.

WER UK is in regular contact with local partner agencies in Lebanon and Jordan as they evaluate the need for further areas of assistance in the region.

For further details or to make a donation to support WER's work, please visit www.wer-uk.org or call WER on 0870 429 2129.

Children read a list of names of those affected by AIDS that were newly carved into the Circle of Friends this year at the National AIDS Memorial Grove on World Aids Day in San Francisco, California, December 1, 2006. The Grove is the nations' first AIDS memorial with a circle of thousands of names of those who have died of AIDS and their family and friends engraved in stone.
