World Emergency Relief (WER) is sending food and humanitarian aid, including clothes and blankets, to Iraqi refugees in Jordan.

The goods were donated to WER and our partner agency Glasgow the Caring City (GtCC) by businesses across the UK and will be distributed to families in Jordan through local Jordanian charity IOMERD.

WER has been working in close partnership with IOMERD since 2006 and has shipped more than 100 tons of humanitarian aid to Jordan for distribution to Iraqi refugee families as well as local Jordanian families who are suffering similar levels of hardship due to the current economic climate in Jordan.

The UN estimates that nearly 2 million Iraqis have been displaced by violence in their country and fled to surrounding countries, the vast majority of whom have fled since 2003. Iraqi refugees are now living in Syria, Jordan, Iran, Egypt, Lebanon, Yemen, and Turkey. An additional 1.9 million Iraqi people have also vacated their homes to seek refuge in safer areas within Iraq.

For more information on WER's work or to make a donation, please visit www.wer-uk.org or call 0844 249 2129.
