ACT Information Update #2: Peru earthquake

ACT: Peru: Massive earthquake information update #2 (16:45 CET / August 16, 2007)
The ACT Coordinating Office (CO) made contact at 16:00 (CET) with Gilberto Romero, coordinator of the ACT Peru forum. Mr. Romero reports that the ACT members are meeting right now in Lima and that there will be a forthcoming alert and request for support from the ACT Rapid Response Fund.
The program staff at Lutheran World Federation (LWF) has also made contact with Leena Hokkanen, the Deputy Manager of Evangelical Lutheran Association for Aid to Community Development (DIACONIA) in Peru. Ms. Hokkanen reports communication difficulties with mobile and land telephones, but that they are receiving communication through radio. DIACONIA is an ACT member and also an associate program of LWF.
All three ACT members in Peru have activities in the affected area.
The ACT CO plans to support a response by members in the region through the ACT Rapid Response Fund, pending approval of a Rapid Response Fund request. The ACT CO will remain in contact with the members in Peru and continue to update the wider alliance on any plans for a response.
