Storms and resulting flooding have hit Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, in the last three days, killing more than 300 persons. Further bad weather is predicted, with the government issuing a cyclone warning for Karachi and other coastal communities in the coming days.

Officials said the new storm system was expected to bring strong winds and considerable rainfall to Sindh province, of which Karachi is the capital, and in neighboring Baluchistan province. More than 2,000 people in that province were being evacuated to higher ground, according to reports.

Parts of Karachi were still without electricity or drinking water two days following the storm and flooding.

Lawyers celebrate the reinstatement of Pakistan's chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry in Multan July 21, 2007. Hailing the Supreme Court's reinstatement of Pakistan's chief justice, newspapers warned democratic forces on Saturday that destablising President Pervez Musharraf further could play into militant and extremist hands.
