Thousands have been forced to flee after flooding affected 32 districts in the north, north-east and central areas of Bangladesh.

The situation is expected to get worse with the Brahmaputra-Jamuna, Ganges-Padma and Meghna rivers all still rising and more areas, including parts of the capital Dhaka, are expected to be flooded in the next few days. Latest official figures report 5 people dead, thousands forced to flee and an estimated 20 million people living in the affected areas.

Many roads are closed with communication and transport systems hampered. Crops have been destroyed, offices closed, and prices of daily necessities already increased sharply. The government have closed public offices and schools for an indefinite period.

Plan staff are currently on the ground assessing the situation with affected communities who are in urgent need for food, clean water, clothes, medicine, fodder and carbolic acid (to curb snake bites).

As soon as we receive updated information regarding the situation and the families affected, we will endeavour to share it with our supporters and publish it online.
