The State of the World's Mothers 2007
report will be released globally on Tuesday, May 8th. This year we focus on the 28,000 children under 5 who die each day from easily preventable or treatable causes and the tragic fact that
basic, lifesaving remedies are still not reaching millions of mothers and children in need. The report features the 8th annual Mother's Index, ranking the best and worst places to be a
mother around the globe and also includes the first-ever Child Survival Progress Rankings of 60 developing countries, which together account for 94 percent of all child deaths worldwide. The
rankings indicate which countries are succeeding and which are failing to save the lives of children under the age of 5. This report helps to bring attention to low-cost solutions that have
the greatest potential to save lives. It also identifies countries that are succeeding in tackling this problem, showing that effective solutions to this challenge are affordable - even in the
world's poorest countries.
