Washington, DC- A freak accident five years ago may have cost Dan Sheret his lower right leg, but it did not take away his spirit to inspire and help others. A veteran long distance cyclist, Sheret is set to circumnavigate the globe, by bicycle, to help raise awareness and funds for landmine victims around the world.

He starts his global journey, that he has dubbed "AbilityTrek", on June 1 in Washington, DC.

"My goal is twofold," Sheret says. "To bring hope and awareness to amputees in need throughout the developing world and also bring to light the great work that is being done to aid landmine victims and other amputees."

Leaving from the Bartholdi Fountain at the Capital building in Washington, DC at 9:00 am on June 1st, 2007, Sheret will be escorted to the Lincoln Memorial by the Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team, a primary sponsor of the trek.

Sheret will then be off and crossing the United States in a mere 66 days. Early Fall will find Sheret cycling Singapore, his port of call in Southeast Asia as he makes his way north to see the first of two landmine survivor aid projects to receive proceeds from the trek, Clear Path International.

Clear Path International (CPI) serves landmine and bomb accident survivors in Vietnam, Cambodia and along the Thai-Burma border. Dan will be visiting their project site in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam where CPI has served over 2500 victims of accidents involving explosive remnants of war since the year 2000.

Following his Southeast Asia tour, Dan will be turning east across Russia and into the Middle East where he will meet with the Amman Cosmopolitan Rotary Club in Jordan, the host club of Rotary International's Basra, Iraq Prosthetics Project.

The Basra, Iraq Prosthetics Project is an all-volunteer project to bring desperately needed aid and medical assistance to Iraqi civilian amputees through the Basra Ministry of Health Clinic which serves five districts in Iraq.

His ride will then continue across Turkey, the Balkans, the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and England before returning to the United States in the spring of 2008.
