Three members of GlobalMedic's Rapid Response Team visited two makeshift tented camps housing over a thousand people in the northern region of Gaza. The team trained local technicians, staff and volunteers from the Ministry of Health and local partner NGOs on the installation and operation of portable water purification units.

Newly trained personnel fanned out across the region and began the task of restoring access to clean water to displaced persons. Priority locations were established including schools, shelters and camps for the displaced.

The team then travelled to a local school. Many of the children have been traumatized by the war. The team installed a portable system so that students there and the surrounding schools could access clean water. In the event that hostilities flare up, this school will serve as a central point for affected people in the neighbourhood to access clean water.

A plan was formulated for the distribution of water purification tablets to clinics and houses in affected communities. A separate distribution plan was created to distribute ORS to medical facilities throughout the region.

Over the next few days the team will continue to install water purification systems.
