Dorcas Aid international assists 4,000 persons that fell victims to the devastating earthquake that hit China recently. The assistance consists of food aid in remote areas of Minyang District and the Abba Prefectures of Sichuan Province and will continue at least until the end of August.

The food is distributed by Dorcas' local partners who know the area and the language.

The quake was the worst to hit the country in more than 30 years. More than 80,000 are dead or missing.

The victims include thousands of children who were crushed to death when their school buildings collapsed on them. About 362,000 people were injured when the 7.9 magnitude quake struck southwestern Sichuan province. Around 5 million people lost their homes.

Thousands of aftershocks and a forecast of more rain have compounded the difficulties for military, government and private workers trying to deliver aid and ensure people get shelter.
