"This money from Ireland will be used to support the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Our Red Cross colleagues in Congo report the present situation as precarious with risk that it could deteriorate further very rapidly," said Noel Wardick, Head of the Irish Red Cross International Dept.

Present priorities are food, water and medical care to displaced populations, many of whom have been worn down by numerous previous displacements including some who already abandoned their homes earlier this year.

The money sent by the Irish Red Cross comes from within the organisation\x92s own Emergency Relief Fund, but more money is needed in order to keep funds available for this and other emergencies.

Donations can be made online at www.redcross.ie and by calling 1850 50 70 70.
