Lutheran World Federation/World Service-Eritrea Program (LWF/WS-ER), in partnership with the zoba
Debub Administration implemented a community resettlement project in Debremariam and DaƩro Hara in sub zoba Mai Mne, Derehelassie and Hansesa in zoba Debub in 2007.
The project activities undertaken include:
provision of water supply system, family tents and support to rain-fed agricultural activities.
LWF drilled 4 boreholes, 3 water reservoirs and constructed 12 public fountains to provide access to clean drinking water in the new resettlement areas. The completed water supply systems, all of which are solar powered will benefit 6,423 people, were handed over to the zoba Debub and sub zobas Mai Mne and Areza
Administrations on 23 February 2008.
Pending the completion of their permanent houses, LWF provided 1,700 pieces of family tents to relocated families for temporary shelters. The tents will be distributed by the zoba Debub Administration.
LWF plans to assist the zoba Debub Administration with the transportation of displaced people and their belongings to their new locations in 2008. Sub zobas of Mai-Mne and Areza are located within the Temporary
Security Zone (TSZ) in zoba Debub. These villages are the most affected by severe water shortages affecting both the people and their livestock.
