The ecumenical pavilion at the WSF in Nairobi was packed yesterday when thousands of people literary left whatever they were doing to attend the youth concert, co-organised by NCA.

The concert was organised by the ecumenical youth initiative under the Caritas-AACC ecumenical platform, within which Norwegian Church Aid's Eastern Africa team has played a major role. The show was a complete music and dance extravaganza focusing around the theme of water, the environment and climate change.

The concert was electrifying from the first note to the last. The participants, led by MC Gowi Odera, a popular actor and youth pastor in Nairobi, chanted: "H2O, Maji ni Uzima" (which is Swahili for "water is life"). It did not take long before the tent was filled with people from all areas of the World Social Forum.

Among the artists that took part in the concert were Kora award (the African equivalent of America's Grammy award) winner Esther Wahome, Rufftone, A-Star, Juliani, Kanji and many others.

The concert was supported by the Ecumenical Water Network in partnership with the Caritas-AACC ecumenical platform, the Church of Sweden and Norwegian Church Aid. It was organised and run by the Ecumenical Youth Initiative, which brings together youth groups from churches based in Nairobi.

A boat sprays water into the burning ferry Levina I 50 miles from Jakarta's Tanjung Priok Port February 22, 2007. At least 11 people died after a fire on the ferry off Jakarta Bay on Thursday, with some desperate passengers hurling themselves off the blazing vessel into the sea, a navy official and a survivor said.
