Handel Concert. (Copyright: Save the Children Australia) Handel in Sydney - Sunday 27 May 2007

The sublime music of George Frideric Handel and the extraordinary story of how it was composed are brought to vivid life in a stunning musical drama at Sydney Opera House on Sunday 27 May 2007.

Live on stage, the great 18th century composer - played by actor Peter Whitford in full period dress - faces a 21st century interview with SBS Television's chief news presenter Mary Kostakidis as interlocutor.

And interlacing the dialogue, over 450 singers and musicians, including principal soloists from Opera Australia, will perform a selection of Handel's most glorious compositions.

All proceeds to Save the Children Australia

PICTURES OF THE YEAR 2006 Children afflicted by polio rest at the International Polio Victim Response Committee (IPVRC) compound in Democratic Republic of Congo's capital Kinshasa October 26, 2006. Most of the 60 million population of Democratic Republic of Congo are desperate for peace and reconstruction after decades of chaos and a 1998-2003 war that led to the deaths of 4 million people, a number that dwarfs even the Iraq conflict.
