TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS- World Emergency Relief's (WER) Hurricane Felix relief efforts are being locally coordinated with emergency relief teams and the Honduras Emergency Management Office. Late yesterday, WER joined relief efforts for 345 refugees at a shelter in Tegucigalpa. Each refugee is getting hot food, clothes and medical care. In addition, WER's local staff is distributing antifungal lotions and scabies medicines in Tegucigalpa, Tegus, San Pedro, Ceiba and La Moskitia. WER is also purchasing local emergency supplies which WER's Board member Gary Becks and local disaster teams will distribute.

WER expects to concentrate the majority of its relief efforts in the La Moskita jungle, where over 2,300 Miskito Indians remain in shelters near their villages waiting for the flood water to recede. WER's Honduran staff has secured a military flight to transport food and emergency supplies as well as the team itself, who will distribute the supplies to the Miskito hurricane victims as soon as conditions allow.

WER's Phase II emergency relief will include rushing two 40-foot containers of food, blankets, medical and emergency supplies to Honduras.

World Emergency Relief is a global family of seven charities sharing a common vision and core values. Our vision is "giving children a living chance," by addressing the practical, emotional, spiritual, educational and economic needs of children, their families and their communities.
