Kaafu Guraidhoo. With funding from the
Bahrain Red Crescent, the International
Federation built an accommodation block (
pictured) for a home for people with
special needs. The home is the only such
facility in the Maldives, housing
elderly people and people with mental
and physical disabilities. The design of
the accommodation block is such that can
function as safe haven during floods or
tsunamis (elevated floor) and provides
easy access for people with physical
disabilities (a ramp to the first floor).
