May 12 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 1400 GMT on Monday:

BAGHDAD - U.S. forces said they killed three armed men during an operation on Sunday night in Baghdad's Hurriya district targeting a suspected kidnapper. The military said troops killed the men after being fired on. Another eight suspects were detained. Neighbours said those killed were students not linked to gangs or militias.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb killed a U.S. soldier on patrol in northwestern Baghdad on Sunday, the U.S. military said.

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi army killed eight militants and arrested 16 others in Baghdad, the defence ministry said.

MOSUL - The Iraqi army arrested 81 suspected insurgents in the past 24 hours during a fresh offensive against al Qaeda in the group's last major urban stronghold of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, the defence ministry said.

BAGHDAD - Three bodies were found in different districts of Baghdad on Sunday, police said.

BAGHDAD - Hospitals received two bodies and treated 24 wounded overnight in the Shi'ite slum of Sadr City, hospital sources said. The U.S. military said it had killed three militants in Sadr City in clashes on Sunday and overnight.

NASSIRIYA - A bomb hidden in an air conditioning unit at the main police station of Nassiriya, 357 km (235 miles) southeast of Baghdad, wounded two policemen, police said.

NEAR KIRKUK - A roadside bomb killed one Iraqi soldier and wounded two others when it hit their patrol on Sunday in a town near Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

NEAR SAMARRA - Two bodies were found with gunshot wounds on Sunday near Samarra, 100 km (62 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

SHIRQAT - A bomb killed a member of a U.S.-backed neighbourhood security patrol on Sunday in Shirqat, 300 km (190 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.
