BANGKOK, May 6 (Reuters) - A Thai military transport plane carrying nine tonnes of food and medical supplies flew to cyclone-hit Myanmar on Tuesday, the first outside aid to leave for the impoverished Southeast Asian nation.

Thailand, a major investor in its military-run and diplomatically isolated neighbour, also pledged at least $100,000 in cash, Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama said.

"What Myanmar really needs now are tin sheets and tents as we are initially sending them food and water supplies," he told reporters before a cabinet meeting.

"This is a tsunami-like disaster in which many more unaccounted bodies are buried deep under the debris," he said.

Cyclone Nargis killed at least 15,000 people and left another 30,000 missing when it slammed into the former Burma's Irrawaddy delta and Yangon on Saturday, officials said. (Reporting by Nopporn Wong-Anan; Editing by Ed Cropley)
