COLOMBO, Jan 8 (Reuters) - A Sri Lankan government minister was admitted to a hospital emergency unit on Tuesday after his car was targeted by a roadside bomb north of the capital, a hospital official said.

The Sri Lankan military said the minister's condition was not serious.

Nation Building Minister D.M. Dassanayake's car was targeted by a blast which bears the hallmark of Tamil Tiger rebel attacks, in the town of Ja-Ela, 12 miles (19 km) north of Colombo.

"He is in the emergency unit," a hospital official said, asking not to be named. The military said the minister and four other people were admitted to hospital, but none of them were seriously injured. (Reporting by Ranga Sirilal; Editing by Simon Gardner and Sanjeev Miglani)
