COLOMBO, Jan 8 (Reuters) - A loud blast rocked a downtown area of the Sri Lankan capital on Tuesday evening, witnesses said, but the military had no immediate details.

The blast came hours after suspected Tamil Tiger rebels killed a government minister with a roadside bomb between Colombo and the island's only international airport. (Reporting by Ranga Sirilal; writing by Simon Gardner; editing by Roger Crabb)
