MUMBAI, Feb 3 (Reuters) - At least 15 people were killed after a wall of a warehouse under construction collapsed near India's financial capital on Saturday, police said.

"We have recovered 15 bodies. Five or six more people can be under the rubble," said Ram Rao Wagh, Commissioner of Police from Navi Mumbai, a satellite city on the northern outskirts of Mumbai.

All victims were labourers, Wagh said, adding that the cause of the collapse was not immediately known.

Building collapses are common in India, especially during the monsoon rains, mainly due to poor maintenance of old structures and sometimes due to shoddy materials used by the contractors.

A move by a tribal council in an Indian state to reward tribeswomen who bear more than a dozen children with cash has infuriated feminists and health officials. Picture taken January 31, 2007.
