KATHMANDU, June 3 (Reuters) - Nepali police detained 28 pro-Tibet protesters in Kathmandu on Tuesday as refugees demanding freedom for their Himalayan homeland resumed anti-China demonstrations after a lull of several weeks.

The protesters -- shouting slogans including "We want free Tibet" -- were picked up when they tried to storm the premises of a Chinese visa office in the heart of the capital.

A police officer said the refugees would be released later.

Tibetans in Nepal have been protesting regularly since the March crackdown on protests in Lhasa by the Chinese authorities. Beijing has urged Kathmandu to do more to prevent the demonstrations.

Nepal considers Tibet part of China and says it does not allow any political activities directed against its giant neighbour, a key aid donor, but it has failed to stifle the protests. (Reporting by Gopal Sharma; Editing by Simon Denyer and Jerry Norton)
