-- Foreign investment in Vietnam is expected to reach new heights this year with the estimated level for January to May more than doubling the same period last year to $15.3 billion, the Foreign Investment Agency said.

-- The State Securities Commission said 10 of the 30 listed companies which have registered to issue new shares have officially suspended their plans.

-- Vinamilk <VNM.HM>, the country's leading dairy processor, was close to completion of listing its shares on the Singapore Exchange Limited that is expected in the fourth quarter of this year, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Vinamilk marketing director, said.

-- Rice stockpile has been mounting in Vietnam, with 1.3 million tonnes now in warehouses while prices are falling, as the country still maintains a temporary halt on export of the grain, the Vietnam Food Association said.

-- Early rice harvesting on 6,000 hectares (14,830 acres) of the summer-autumn crop has begun in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap, or 3 percent of the province's area for the crop, as farmers started plantations a month earlier than usual to catch up with high rice prices.

-- The government decided last week to send 4,550 tonnes of rice as food relief to three provinces in the northern and central regions during the period between crops.

-- Vietnam could start mass production of anti-bird flu vaccine for human by the end of next year after ongoing trials on 30 volunteers are slated to end by mid-2009, said doctor Nguyen Thu Van, who heads the vaccine production company.

-- So far only 30 provinces and nine ministries have reported plans to cut spending using state budget as a measure to control inflation with a total value of around 2 trillion dong ($125 million) in nearly 600 projects, the Planning and Investment Ministry said.
