KARACHI, June 23 (Reuters) - Heavy wind and rain battered the southern Pakistani city of Karachi on Saturday, causing accidents that killed 36 people and injured many others, provincial government minister Sardar Ahmed told Reuters.

"These include people killed by electrocution, roof and wall collapses as well as some by falling sign boards," he said.

Dozens of trees, power poles and wires were toppled and many parts of Pakistan's biggest city were left without electricity for hours. Flooding caused long traffic jams, residents said.

More rain was expected on Sunday.
