ISTANBUL, July 9 (Reuters) - Three police officers and three assailants were killed in a gun battle at the entrance of the United States consulate in Istanbul on Wednesday, Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler said.

He told reporters one of the police officers had died at the scene and two had died of their injuries at a nearby hospital.
