JAKARTA, Sept 27 (Reuters) - An 8.4-magnitude earthquake that rocked Indonesia's Sumatra island this month caused losses worth about 1.5 trillion rupiah ($164.1 million), but the impact on Southeast Asia's largest economy was insignificant, the government said on Thursday.

More than 86,000 buildings were damaged after the the Sept. 12 quake that was followed by a series of strong aftershocks, setting off tsunami warnings in Indonesia and other countries in the region.

Twenty-five people were killed and 162 injured, and damage was spread over three provinces, with Bengkulu being the worst-hit, according to the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas).

Bappenas chairman Paskah Suzetta said the impact of the quake on the country's economy was insignificant.

"Therefore we are not begging for foreign assistance, but if there's any, we will not reject it," he told reporters.
