June 20 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 1830 GMT on Wednesday:

* denotes new or updated item.

* RAMADI - A suicide car bomber killed five policemen and wounded 13 other officers in Ramadi, 110 km (68 miles) west of Baghdad, police said.

* BAQUBA - Two children and three women were killed and eight other people were wounded when a mortar exploded in a residential area of Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad, the Ministry of the Interior said.

BAGHDAD - Police found 29 bodies on the streets of Baghdad on Wednesday. Most of the victims had been shot dead.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen kidnapped eight Christian university students and a lecturer in northern Iraq, police said. They said the group was snatched off a bus east of the city of Mosul.

BASRA - A British soldier from the 4th Battalion was killed on Wednesday by indirect fire at a coordination centre in Basra, the British Defence Ministry said.

NASSIRIYA - U.S. forces killed three suspected insurgents, including a senior member of Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr's Mehdi army militia, and arrested 45 others during the past two days in Nassiriya, 375 km (235 miles) south of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

BAGHDAD - Four insurgents were killed and 62 detained during a four-day operation in southeast Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi army arrested 44 suspected insurgents in the past 24 hours in different districts of Baghdad, the Defence Ministry said.

BAGHDAD - The death toll from a truck bomb targeting the Khilani Shi'ite mosque in central Baghdad on Tuesday was 87 killed and 214 wounded, police said. The mosque was badly damaged.

BAGHDAD - The bodies of 33 people were found abandoned in different districts of Baghdad on Tuesday, police said. They had all been shot.

AZIZIYA - Gunmen killed a police major in the town of Aziziya, 80 km (50 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

KUT - The bodies of a young woman and a man were found in the city of Kut, 170 km (100 miles) southeast of Bagdad, police said. They had been shot.

ISKANDARIYA - A bomb planted inside a Sunni mosque badly damaged it in the town of Iskandariya, 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad on Tuesday, police said.

ISKANDARIYA - A Sunni mosque suffered minor damage from a bomb attack in the town of Iskandariya on Tuesday, police said.

JBELA - A Sunni mosque was badly damaged by a bomb attack on Tuesday in the town of Jbela, 65 km (40 miles) south of Baghdad on Tuesday, police said.
